MILITARY SPOUSE SITE RE-LAUNCHES www.elpasojobregister.com (El Paso, Texas) Workforce Solutions Upper Rio Grande and the Greater El Paso Chamber of Commerce have re-launched a job search site for incoming military spouses: www.elpasojobregister.com. As part of the partnership, Workforce Solutions Upper Rio Grande funds the site while the Greater Chamber of Commerce assists in employer engagement and recruitment. The new and improved site allows incoming military spouses to post their resume, search jobs and receive information on helpful links to additional job sites, resources and services. Best of all, the website is FREE! “As a military spouse, I think that the job register is useful to link other military spouses to the El Paso job market,” said Workforce Solutions Upper Rio Grande Case Manager Megan Malone. She works at the Workforce Solutions Upper Rio Grande location on post at 2494 Ricker Road. “This job register is one of the first resources specifically created with the military spouse in mind. The spouses are gaining employment and self sufficiency, while the employers are gaining hard working, reliable, and trustworthy employees. Being able to access job openings and other employer information is a key resource to not only help out military families, but also the El Paso economy. It is a relief to have a consistent network of support for our very inconsistent lifestyle!” www.elpasojobregister.com was originally launched on June 30, 2007, but was redesigned to refine site capabilities and incorporate customer tracking reports. The site is free for both employers and military spouses; all each has to do is register! Military spouses can also register on www.workintexas.com and seek services at any Workforce Solutions Upper Rio Grande location. Currently there is also training funds available for military spouses through Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC). For more information, military spouses can call 566-8649. |

Project Endeavor was launched in December 2004 and ended in October 2007. The initiative provided re-employment transition assistance for returning military personnel, their spouses, and other dislocated workers.
More than 400 soldiers and their families were assisted through Project Endeavor. After the initiative was completed, soldiers and their families continued and continue to receive services like job search assistance on post. The Upper Rio Grande Workforce Development Board has an office located on Ricker Road in Fort Bliss.
The Board also received a $175,000 award from the Department of Labor in 2007 for Base Realignment and Closure efforts. One of those efforts was the El Paso Job Register. The online site allows incoming military spouses to post their skills and talents, prior to their arrival. El Paso businesses can then view the resumes and military spouses can view what types of jobs are available. The initiative was done in partnership with the Greater El Paso Chamber of Commerce.
The Institute for Policy and Economic Development (IPED) at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) studied the economic impact of BRAC on the El Paso Area and projects the total annual economic impact of the new troops will be $1.469 billion (output) and 21, 248 new jobs. |
