The winners of The 2009 Davey Awards have been announced by the International Academy of the Visual Arts and Workforce Solutions Upper Rio Grande has been selected as a winner of a Silver Award in three categories: print (Agricultural Forum), print collateral (2008 Annual Report) and marketing effectiveness (Career Connection 2008). With over 4,000 entries from across the U.S. and around the world, the Davey Award honors the finest creative work from the best small firms, agencies and companies worldwide.
Workforce Solutions Upper Rio Grande now has four Davey Awards and a total of eight international recognitions for creative excellence, all have been earned in the last two years. The work recognized was designed and developed in-house by the Board’s Regional Relations Unit, with the exception of the annual report which was designed by AGI Marketing Solutions.
About The Davey Awards: The Davey Awards honors the “Davids” of creativity, the smaller agencies, companies, or organizations with annual billings or revenues below certain levels. Each year, The Davey Awards honors winners who derive their strength from big ideas, rather than big budgets.

Spirit of Excellence Awards |

 Workforce Solutions Upper Rio Grande recognized 17 key stakeholders in the region November 12, with the Spirit of Excellence Award. The award recognizes partners that have gone above and beyond in their contribution to the workforce system – capturing the “Spirit of Excellence”.
Honorees were in one of four categories: staff, community partners, employers and training providers. Criteria considered during the selection process varied, according to category, but included state and board reports, in-kind contributions and return on taxpayer investment.
“Recognizing our partners that help us accomplish our mission and vision as a workforce system is invaluable,” said Workforce Solutions Upper Rio Grande CEO Lorenzo Reyes. “The successes we achieve are not accomplished alone, we work with partners to leverage resources and move our region forward.”
In attendance, at the event, were nearly 200 key stakeholders from across the six county region and Board Members. Below are the honorees at the second annual event. BOARD ELECTS NEW OFFICERS |

Patricia Villalobos, owner of Barnhart-Taylor, Inc. is the new Chair of the Upper Rio Grande Workforce Development Board of Directors. She was elected to the office this morning during the Board’s annual Strategic Retreat. Ms. Villalobos is a Private Sector Representative on the 27-member Board. She has served on the Board since 2006 when she was appointed by the Mayor of the City of El Paso with final approval by the three-member Texas Workforce Commission is Austin. Ms. Villalobos most recently served as Vice Chair of the Board. She replaces Luis Rivera, Branch Manager of Magnolia Coca-Cola Bottling Company who served as Chair for two terms and now will serve as Immediate Past Chair. 
“I am honored to serve on this board because I believe in its mission and vision that impacts our six counties,” said Ms.Villalobos. “I am eager to help bring resources, partnerships and experience that will help our Workforce Solutions Board Staff enhance the programs that help Employers and Job Seekers. I also look forward to working with a dynamic Board of Directors,” she added. |
